Fasting Tuesday Week #14: A Miracle Working God

We rolled into tonight's video exhausted in the best way. Eden turned 8 today and we had a party for her complete with Cade in the water, swimming like a little bald fish. I think we've been in the midst of a miracle for about a week now, and while at first I was wary of trusting it, I can now confidently say Cade's response to this past week was amazing. He did NOT get sick, he did not get sores, and he has been able to enjoy life, despite a big treatment.

We mention this in the video, but I am firmly convinced that the prayers of many many people made this week what it was. A few days ago Chad and I were talking about how we can't wait for Heaven, to see the film of all of this in the spiritual realm. Like, what is actually happening when we pray and fast? What are we actually doing? What angels are released, what doors are opened and which ones are shut, how many things are set in motion simply because we pray and God responds? It's not a formula, but there is a basic equation. I love how James assures us that "the prayer of a righteous person is POWERFUL and EFFECTIVE."

Thank you for praying for us. Thank you for choosing to take time to feel on our behalf, to have compassion leak from your hearts in the form of prayers. That means so much. I am confident that this little boy's body is receiving the benefit of lots of people's faith and prayers that he may never even meet. God could heal Cade all by Himself, but I am so thankful for how He invites us into the process.

As we mention in the video, Cade has his final set of mid-treatment scans this coming Monday. Please pray with us for scans that show no evidence of disease, and even that the scar tissue would be totally dissolved in inexplicable ways. I feel so hungry for mind-blowing things. The God who made a fish swallow Jonah, a leper clean after dipping seven times in the Jordan, a 12 year old rise from the dead, and cracked open a river and a sea for his people in two different accounts to walk through can certainly still work miracles. And He can even be extravagantly miraculous. Even unnecessarily miraculous. That's what I'm asking for. A brand spanking new kidney for Cade and healing for someone else's. I want double for my trouble. (WON'T HE DO IT)

I've been thinking about Isaiah 61 lately, specifically verses 7-9:

 Instead of your shame
you will receive a double portion,
and instead of disgrace
you will rejoice in your inheritance.
And so you will inherit a double portion in your land,
and everlasting joy will be yours.
“For I, the Lord, love justice;
    I hate robbery and wrongdoing.
In my faithfulness I will reward my people
and make an everlasting covenant with them.
Their descendants will be known among the nations
and their offspring among the peoples.
All who see them will acknowledge
that they are a people the Lord has blessed.”

Such an amazing passage, but I really love that God hates robbery. In many ways, November represents a time where I feel like a thief broke in and tried to steal a lot of stuff and got caught half way through. And basically, I want my stuff back. I want Cade's kidney back. I want his lungs back. It encourages me that the Lord hates robbery too. He has never liked that nasty thief. And like John 10 says, while the thief came only to steal, kill and destroy (sounds a lot like cancer), Jesus came to give abundant life.

May Cade experience that abundant life more and more!

Thank you for praying with us for clean scans and full hearts next week. For the glory of God to be seen in Cade's living, and for the thief to be totally crushed under our feet by the God of peace!

FEASTING TUESDAY #23: Those Who Dream

We are so thrilled to share with y'all the good news from this week's scans. We explain at length in the video we made, and share some other cool stories. The bottom line is that Cade's four new lung nodules we saw on the scans in August were completely gone- and based on some new findings our oncologist feels confident it is the result of an infection and not the disease. We are not doing surgery, we are done with chemo, and CADE IS GOING TO SCHOOL! We will re-scan in three months to check on the scar tissue to make sure it is not growing, and to monitor him. We are so thankful to have this break, and we are hoping you fully celebrate with us. Our minds are still pretty blown- we had an emotional whiplash of a week last week, and I am personally still very much processing and absorbing what all of this means. In essence, I feel like I am emerging from hiding with my family, and it is amazing how many new decisions need to be made. But this is what relationship with J

Fasting Tuesday Week #22: The Shadow of the Most High

This week is scan week, and I know people must be praying because the peace we both feel is ridiculous. Cade has enjoyed a week of being so normal- running, playing, sweating, soccer, playgrounds. All of the things I once took for granted feel like a privilege and a gift. Thursday morning we will go in for a chest CT scan and a meeting with our oncologist. If the spots remain, we will have surgery in the next two weeks to remove them and get pathology. Everything hinges on the results of the pathology, and we are praying that every single cell is dead. We got to spend time with friends on Sunday night celebrating how faithful God has been through this process. It was so encouraging, and so good for me to stop and look back and realize all that God has done. It reminds me of the story where Jesus healed 10 leperous men and only one returned to thank him. I want to be that one. I want to always be willing to recognize when miracles have happened. Some days it feels like life can be

Week 6 Chemo

Cade is doing great! I've been drinking up these precious, normal life days in all their fullness. It's amazing how this whole experience has increased our capacity to feel joy. In every sense, we are more aware and alive to the gift of life. We are still completely amazed at how unscathed he was by this past five day treatment. We are praying fervently that all of the treatment went straight to all the cancer, and his healthy cells stay healthy. Thank you for praying with us.  Cade has a chemo infusion tomorrow at 12 pm EST. As always, the chemo prayer points we initially wrote are  here . Below are some verses we prayed last week over Cade throughout his infusions, and ones we will also be praying tomorrow.  1. Please pray that this chemo would be a tool in God's hands. Psalm 119:91: "All things are your servants." I love this simple verse. When I read it last week I got excited. God is just SO in control of everything. Even in the crazy book o
